I’d say from talking to many people at the Vienna march that most participants are indeed concerned about Trump, and not just because of his anti-science stance and cabinet picks, but because he is an affront to basic human decency. That said, many of the people I spoke with were also there because they simply wanted to show their support for science and scientists. I certainly didn’t get a sense that anyone felt they had been scammed about the reasons for the march. It was pretty apparent in all the preparations and lead-up that a big part of the purpose was to show that people prefer reason- and fact-based decision-making to ideologically driven policies that favor industrial, business and commercial entities over people and the environment.
